An abberation is an undesired effect produced by a lens or optical mechanism. They are caused by irregularities in the production or design of an optical device.
Chromatic abberations are changes in color, often undesirable and usually seen most prominently towards the edges of the lens. Oftentimes abberations will also consist of blurring or distortion.
