An academy is an institution of learning, often specialized to meet a certain need. The word "academy" comes from Greek with the academic tradition originating from Plato's own Academy.
Academies may refer to elementary or high schools; or in many cases colleges and universities. Often an academy focuses on learning certain skills, such as a military or sports academy.
